Beauty

Every day we use countless beauty products, from serums, moisturizer to lipsticks and foundation. What most of us don’t know is that they are filled with awful chemicals that are carcinogenic and endocrine disruptors. In cosmetics alone, the EU has banned or restricted more than 1,300 chemicals while the US has outlawed or curbed just 11. Your organs shouldn’t suffer because of your lipstick!

Luckily, not all beauty products come with a price, here are some of the makeup brands I use who have clean ingredients :

Saie, Inn Beauty, JonesRoad, Kinship, Kosas, Tata Harper, Acure, Ilia, Ere Perez, RMS beauty...

Also, there are various apps out there that can scan the bar codes of items you’re interested in and they will tell you their levels of toxicity. I use Think Dirty App (it makes a trip to Sephora very interesting).

For online shopping Credo Beauty has a great selection!

Suncream

Did you know most suncreams have ingredients that cause infertility in humans and fish, as well as coral reef bleaching? Most people have no idea and continue to harm themselves along with all the beautiful marine creatures. Chemicals such as oxybenzone, octinoxate, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate and avobenzone are unsafe, so make sure these are not in your suncream. In fact, as of 2021 Hawaii banned the sale of these dangerous creams to protect their marine ecosystems!

Here are a few brands that are clean and reef safe, although greenwashing is a major problem so make sure to actually read the ingredients. Zinc is generally an inoffensive UV protective agent so don’t be shy!

Mad Hippie, Kinship, Suntegrity, Saie, Apivita, All Good, Coral Safe SPF, etc...

Household Products

Our Clean is Sexy campaign also applies to household cleaning products which are filled with harmful chemicals. From reproductive problems, hormonal imbalances, asthma, cancer and allergies, our homes are no longer safe spaces from environmental toxins. Manufacturers are not obligated by U.S. law to list all ingredients in consumer products. Products that are labeled "green" do not necessarily mean they are safer. Do a little research on the product from a reliable source.

There are plenty of companies out there creating safe cleaning supplies such as :

Safely, Branch Basics, Mrs Meyers,

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has a list of products that meet its Safer Choice requirements for cleaning and other needs.

The Honest Company by Jessica Alba also carries many options to live in a clean toxin free house!
